When it appears on your arm
like a map, you go to choke the green leaf
thinking poison ivy or poison oak
and that makes you think of Uma Thurman
in Batman while the spire of red bumps creeps
around your elbows and knees, the joints
always being the first crevices to quarantine,
as if your skin were the site of plagues.
More and more, you think green is a color
you will have to commit to memoryâ
the first emission of light to go extinct,
peopleâs hazel eyes rolling out of their
sockets, the myrtle trees pushing their arms
back into the ground, growing muscle bark,
the seas ossifying into stone.
